After paying for my morning coffee, I saw an oak leaf laurel on one of the cents I got back in change. Turns out it is a 1901 Indian Head. Unfortunately, someone has tortured the edges of this coin with a vice of some type. It is still cool to get a 118 year old coin in my daily change. =)

Great! I recently found an 1895 Indian penny in my jug of change I keep. I couldn't believe it. I just recently got interested in coin collecting so I'm searching through the jug. I also found a 1943 steel penny. Too bad it wasn't copper. #128556;

An Indian head at face value makes for a good day. Well done!

I don't know if people still practice this, but when I was young collectors would dump bad but novel / interesting coins into change to stimulate people (hopefully, kids) into being interested in the hobby. I wonder if that still happens. Of course, occasionally some kid finds mom's stash in the drawer and spends them too :(

Always a day maker I have found one I replaced it with one. The one I found in circulation I treasure although it isn't pretty. And as jonnin stated I returned to circulation a dug IHC that held no value to me but someone else may treasure. Nice find regardless condition.

Makes me wonder what the people that worked there thought.

It's a little beat up sure but you'd be too if you've been in circulation for 118 years. Great find!

Extremely rare to find one in the wild. Possibly from National Coin Week? Or just someone putting it out there looking to peak the interest of who ever found it?

What a pleasant surprise! Its condition makes me wonder how long it has been "in the wild" vs. a coin placed in circulation during the Great American Coin Hunt..
