On your second obverse photo, if I play with the contrast a bit I see the clashed "N". It's weak, but it's there. Everything else looks correct for a VAM-2, so IMHO the clashed "N" is just enough to make it a VAM-2B.
I couldn't help but look for even a hint of a mustache, but sadly there isn't even a hint, so VAM-2A has to be ruled out. Rats!

Thanks for the response fortcollins Also, thanks for pointing out the "N". I looking at VAMWORLD.com and configure out what the "N" was all about. Will look at it again to make sure. Is this it? That diagonal line (looks like human muscle or something).  EDIT: looks incused to me  EDIT: or is right about that incused mark? EDIT#3: ok.. I think I see it below the bottom right of that scratch. The clashed "N" from IN is in the field (reversed and raised) immediately to the left of the neck, almost exactly halfway between the pointed truncation of the neck and the curve from the neck to the throat. See Jason Cuvelier's awesome Morgan overlay images at maddieclashes.com for a better idea of where the clash marks can be found. |

I changed contrast, clarity, and color on your second photo. This is the area, with my arrows marking what I see as a very weak part of the "N" from IN. The "N" is Old English font, upside down, so the weak vertical you are seeing is the right side of the "N" inverted. It isn't strong, complete, or clear, but I think it is just enough to make the call. There are some well-respected VAM specialists on this board. Let's see if they see it as enough to make the VAM 2B call. I'll definitely yield to their expertise. Here is the marked and enhanced portion of your photo:  |

This is very difficult, even more than WHERE'S WALDO!
But thanks for pointing out the exact location.
I guess that USB microscope didn't cut it this time.

I would lean towards VAM 2. I don't see any evidence of clashing based on the photos. |

Thanks JJuliano I was trying to remember why I was leaning toward 2B. I guess it was the clashing in the hair at the bottom of the neck (but is covered by the hair) showing lines. But after looking at a close up of VAM-2, there are lines present there too. Thanks for taking a look and commenting. I need to watch more CSI investigative work  |
