I'm interested to hear how this was made. Assuming it was done at the mint, a quarter would have to been placed in the cent dies without the collars. Due to planchet thickness, shouldn't there be more distortion?

That's neat.
You can even see some of the incuse elements of Washington's bust and hair coming through the Lincoln over strike.
