Just thought I share this. And start a discussion on this fable coins existence. Which I believe with almost certainty it does somewhere.

That's a nice offer from PCGS. $10,000 just to see it.

But I wonder, might it be confiscated by the US govt as it was not supposed to be released?
Rest in Peace

That's been around for at least several years. The chances were always slim someone would come forward for that after the aluminum cent and now after the Langboard case there is no chance. Anything super special like these will resurface overseas if at all now.

Were the 1964 Peace dollars struck with left over dies from the 1930's or were they like the 1921 Morgans with dies engraved from a new master? Does anyone know for sure?

Ref Wikipedia: "Some working dies had survived Sinnock's 1937 destruction order, but were found to be in poor condition, and Mint Assistant Engraver (later Chief Engraver) Frank Gasparro was authorized to produce new ones."

I agree with above. If one does exist and turns up in the U.S. the government will confiscate it.

Could be a win win. If the Feds want it back and find out you have one THEY WILL TAKE IT FROM YOU. But PCGS will give you ten grand to see it. WIN WIN Ten grand or taken and you have NOTHING. what good is a coin ya cant talk about in fear it will be taken away. I'll take the ten grand every time.

Thanks, Alpha2814! I thought that they would have had to cut new dies after that much time, I just didn't know for sure.

I have heard that the Mint had planned to include them in the 1964 mint sets. Any confirmation on that?

If you didn't put it up for public auction you might just get to hang onto it. After all the Tovin 1974 aluminum cent has been out there is a slab for years. The government says it is illegal to own too, but they have never actively gone after it. The 1974 D aluminum cent was put up for auction and the government did go after it. The 1933 double eagles used to trade hands openly and were even advertised for sale. Government never actively went after them until one was put up for public auction

Considering they weren't struck til mid 1965, and 1964 mint sets had been on sale for over a year makes it highly unlikely.

Maybe make an agreement with PCGS to keep hushed about it, and to not release your name if the Government comes knocking.
