1986 Penny With Extra Metal - Coin Community Forum

micrba New Member United States 28 Posts	Posted 10/22/2019 11:28 pm I stumbled across this 1986 D penny with an extra clump of metal underneath the mint mark. Is this just a common error (if an error at all), or is it worth something and consequently worth keeping? Greasy Fingers Pillar of the Community United States 7029 Posts	Posted 10/22/2019 11:39 pm It's a spender, the copper plating split (outside the D) during the coining process, allowing air to enter/meet the zinc layer causing rot to form under the copper plating and seperating from each layer.
