Hello! This is my first posting so bear with me if I seem completely clueless! I always hold on to my 1981 penny's. A- for nostalgic reasons because it's the year I was born. And B- because I know they were still made with mostly copper at that time. So I've seen quite a few 1981 pennies but I've never seen one like this. I've been searching the web for days to try and find something similar but I have been unsuccessful. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Are you talking about the split rim? I think it's called a misaligned die strike.

to CCF. If the other side is centered normal, you have a minor MAD with a fold over Rim Fin. It is a spender.

@tateloo, first welcome to CCF. Second, while I agree with @john1 that it looks like a folded over Rim Fin, it is kinda neat to save coins from your birth year, so of course keep it if you want.

If the reverse is normal, it's just a minor misaligned die strike. They become collectible when it's far enough off that the design elements are cut off. If you like it, keep it, if only for the reasons you listed.

Tilted die die issue. See the right side of the half dollar. The left side of the half dollar is not like coin.
