I've been working on this set for a while now and it's really quite fun..I don't much mind if a coin is red or not as you can tell by most of the collection being RB..I originally wanted to post just the 1947 and 1951 as I love the toning they display, but I still can't seem to figure out how to properly upload images off my phone, so I figured I'd just link the whole set instead ..I hope you enjoy seeing it as much as I enjoy working on it! It'll be a long trip before it's complete... especially if I want to find pieces with strong eye appeal, But that's the thrill of the hunt! I'm always on the hunt for upgrades, duplicates, and new pieces I don't have yet as well https://www.PCGS.com/setregistry/ca...edset/168869 feel free to call me Will. Nice! I also collect that series, but it takes a backseat to other sets I have in terms of priority. The 1938 is a tough coin to get, congrats. I tried to get the Cornerstone 1938, but Wolfgang beat me to it...
The 1951 is an odd one - instead of a brand new die, they took a business strike die and polished the heck out of it. The result is that the 1951 specimen strikes have very impressive die trails. The toning hides them somewhat on your coin, but check out the PCGS photos of my 1951, to see the die trails.

Yeah he gobbled up that 38 cent and some other outstanding cornerstone coins, as well as some nicer cook collection pieces..Wolf is a nice guy, glad to start talking to him and Sandy, and others out there..the stories and coins you come across with these gentlemen are just unbelievable...btw Roger you beat me to that 1946 cent from cornerstone, congrats! It looks stunning..I'm quite jealous! Hopefully I can find something that you consider worthy of a trade one day!

Very nice looking set! I have a question though. How would one tell the difference between a specimen and a regular cent if they were both in the "wild"?

The finish is much different from mint state coins for basically the whole series..aside from the 1937 matte cent which can on occasion be tricky..it's the same as determining a US proof coin from the 1940s for the most part...but for the advanced collector, there are ways die markers you can study..

Nothing wrong with RB specimens. Both you and SPP have nice examples.

Very nice. Pennies (I know you are not supposed to call them that!) were my first collection as a youngster so I still have a place in my heart for them even though my collection is not all mint condition.
Now excuse my ignorance for this question but how is a registry set different from other sets? I guess I do not understand the registry part.

This is mostly a "competition" to build the finest set possible. I think the concept always been there but PCGS put it to a next level...
