Have a good look at my pictures and this dime in a 1965 mint set looks kinda messed up. Need a little input on it.

Possibly an incompletely effaced mintmark ? Maybe a "1965 with reverse of 1964-D or 1955-S ?" ? Is that a sealed Special Mint Set ? Odd strike, planchet, and die surfaces. Lots of die polish / rust. Areas of apparent Machine Doubling. Inadequate strike pressure / die alignment. Interesting. Full photo of each side and reeded edge would be helpful.

Also some Machine Doubling. Kind of the worst of the worst from the mint.

There were no mintmarks on the 1965-67 coins on all denominations. They had to catch up with a void of all silver coins being pulled from circulation. With no mintmarks, the amount of coins being collected would be reduced. Also no proof coins. The SMS were created so all 4 mints could strike more coins. (West Point also struck coins and the totals were added in with the Philadelphia totals)

I find it hard to believe they used a pair of SMS dies long enough to get that much deterioration/wear. Have a picture of the entire set?

The obverse looks good. The reverse should have retired long ago. IMOHO

Didn't they make both regular set and SMS set? Ops' coin looks like a regular coin that is LDS.

The reverse looks like a topography map? Like you would see on Google Earth.

This is a mint set, not a SMS.

They didn't make Mint sets or proof sets in 1965, just SMS sets. This is a put together aftermarket set, NOT a government packaged set. That is why I asked to see a picture of the whole set. With that much die wear I suspected a put together set.
