Unc Details but the "sidewalk scratches" would kill it for me no matter the price!

AU details, don't understand the appeal of this at any price I'm afraid.

Ouch. I think this one is a swing and a miss. Sorry.
Despite the mintage figures, the 1931-S is readily available in AU and UNC. Bags of these coins were released several years after minting, and were snarfed up at face value. I remember many UNC rolls of 1931-S Buffs in shows in the 1970s and even the early 1980s. (Think 1950-D and 2009-P and -D Jeffs.)
No grade. I'm not sure this coin details. I think it may body bag. The road rash on the obverse kills the coin. Apart from that, it could be the lighting or flashback, but the surface appears to be too reflective. It's possible that this coin was a reprocessed slider that was replated to look UNC. (That, too, was common in the 1970s.) If so, the plating process could be the source of the road rash. Again, sorry.

numismatic student is well-known for his long-shot calls, and this must certainly be one. I hope he will reply directly with his reasoning here!

the coin is really shiny. obverse lines were a concern, but the coin looked to be photographed in a harsh light. I wanted to see what it looked like in hand. maybe you guys are right. i'll just return it if you are.

Harsh light or not those look way too deep to be just cleaning abrasion. Have to agree with what others are saying, probably scraped on something or other.

you take a lot of chances and gambles . Not always the right move my friend . Put your gears into low and study every part of the coin you like before pulling the trigger . I think your too antsy and buying everything you see .

i don't see the risk with a return option. I see people who don't pull the trigger often enough and miss out on good things in life all the time.

You're hardly thin-skinned, N/S, and I appreciate that. But this coin has to go!

NS, you have purchased tons of coins and posted many here. I would think by now you would know the difference between shiny coins that have been messed with and unaltered surfaces. just because its shiny doesn't mean its original. I'm hoping eventually you learn the differences over time to make your investments pay off, until then, happy hunting
