The planchet doesn't have the reeding. It comes from the retaining collar. It looks as if this coin had a fin that was modified. Or maybe it was pressed against a dime. Is the serrated area only on the rim of the coin?

Sarge, another thing that makes me believe it was encased is the collar of the coin, it is not flat but looks slightly concave.

@jim0815....that concave edge is not all the way around? It is only concave in the section where the ridge is?

I have had a few formerly Encased Cents, some you can see the pressure caused by the encasement all the way around the coin, some you can see in only certain areas like it appears yours shows. I may be wrong but I think it's been encased at one point. |

PMD? I Honestly don't see damage I see a more uniform evenly spaced set of ridge bumps only in one section of the coin which is about a 1/4 of the coin circumference and slight compressed edge causing a concave appearance only in that section! All the rest of the edge is smooth and is the thickness of a regular LWC! The compressed area is thinner like for a dime! I'm not arguing with anyone here or disputing anyone's theory, I'm just not unconvinced it's PMD? Thanks all for your input!
