But I also agree that a lot of dealers and collectors don't really think its important to have one and also don't think its important about the single N

Yet, it is in the PCGS Registry (if you collect the set with varieties). That said, although it is a harder hole to fill in the collection, it is a whole lot cheaper than an 1859 brass strike.

Except for a couple (and I mean 2-3)avid collectors who don't have one, you won't find other folks willing to fork over $1000 for the coin and they would probably be trying to finish a Registry set. I'd put it in a well-advertised large auction and hope for the best. Maybe there ARE some collectors with extra money that would want it, but I wouldn't count on expecting $1000.

Papeldog...you've become quite the pitbull.

I made a realistic statement, the person paying top dollar for varieties is Mr.Rob Turner (Bosox), after that, I am willing to pay a nice sum for *certain* varieties.

It would seem bosox made an offer and the newbie has decided to "shop around"?

You, on the other hand, are not known to pay handsomely for varieties. It is disingenuous for you to be blowing hot air, filling a new member's eyes with promises of dollar signs, when you yourself would never pay half of that amount for that variety.

Realistically he's getting $300-$500.

I don't think that bosox made an offer .. he already has 1, maybe 2 of them. And you, C-V don't need to be so haughty towards Jim, since he's saying what many folks on this site think.

Yes okiecoiner....I've seen how you've all coddled gidjit and any other newbie who's attacked me.

It's ironic, because no one has supported the variety market in Canada over the past decade more than me.

You're hating on the wrong person. I'm actually on your side, you old coot.

And even a dog-faced pony soldier like you will admit $1000 for the 1881 SSN post fees is pie in the sky.

whats that supposed to mean? ive never attacked you , I may have pointed out that you shill bid on your own auctions but I would do that to anyone who does that as its just wrong.
but I do remember you attacking me becuse I won a nice 1882 DDO.
telling me I know nothing about coins and how you had the greatest collection in the world or something like that, I forget the prices you quoted but I think you said I would be lucky to get a couple hundred for it yet you offered me around $1200 minutes after I posted it

Wow, sorry CV I didn't mean to poke you in the eye I just thought it was funny coming from you about being to much money for this coin.

I apologize for my remark but it wasn't meant to insult anyone just a comment how I feel about pricing. I know this variety is not listed as a treasure but we all know it is and I believe he will receive that or better.

C-V: It's just a nice coin that we all talked about and how hard it is to find. I just think that you are jealous because you don't have one. We need to cease all the name calling. You also should be careful about patting your own back ... it'll hurt

Getting back on topic

Victoria 5c and 10c varieties have been doing very well. But Vicky large cent varieties have been struggling in last 1-2 years.

I recently bought a PCGS DP9 No.5 XF45 for ~ $300.

Furthermore, 1882 Double Die and Triple Hub at XF have showed up recently on ebay for $10-$20.

His best bet is consigning with TCNC (Torex), not Bell (Bell Auctions have done very poorly past year, as they focus more and more on tokens).

It's a great coin and I wish him top dollar in passing it on.

I can only imagine some paper money collectors reading this thread, and thinking... "Pfft... only $1000, that's it?"

I can't imagine what a $5 note would sell for, if only 20 or so were known to exist.
