It appears to be Hub doubling but I cant seem to find a listing for this one. Did the best with the pics the glare from nickels can be frustrating when trying to capture the image.

The way the Doubling is running towards the rim, I would say DDD.

It could be coin contact. Possible vending machine damage. Note the affected areas are not enlarged, but reduced. Not a DDR. On the DDR's the hub doubling on these are in the central areas.

Ok thanks for the info everyone. I know in the single squeeze era its unlikely to get doubling where I see it. What throws me off the the notching at of some letters. There flush above where the notching is it looks like the were over overlayed on top of one another I don't think it PMD. Maybe DDD but the die doesn't look worn. Anyway thanks everyone

Notching comes with the devices being enlarged. The devices on your coin is normal in size. Note on this coin that is not a single squeeze die, but the old time setup of several hubbing to create the die:

See the notching? Note the devices are enlarged. That is called hub doubling and is on the die. On your coin it is a single squeeze die, and the devices are normal in size, but the machine altered after the strike. The die was not hub doubled.

Yes that is right cooper but I guess what hard on a Jefferson is ok look above United on that 39. Resembles old man's wrinkly skin lol k now that's DDD. When the die is finished it hits that metal DDD makes ripples in the coin. I thought DDD on the new Jeffersons kinda puffs up and spreads out the letters looks frosty. I was taught that's DDD on the new coins. Idk its a interesting coin that's for your input

Die classes:
On that DDR the area affected the most was the lower central areas. Other DDR's can be affected differently. Why? Because the hub during a different die creation miss aligned differently. Rotated in different directions. (Class 1) On the 1972 cents, dies 001-008 are all examples of class one doubled dies:

Rotated Clockwise (CW) or Counter Clock Wise. (CCW)
Not rotated, but out of alignment showing the devices affected on the edges of the devices (Class 2)

The affected areas are in the center of the designs.

Great post coop extremely informative. I appreciate it. I found this 2016 P just asking if this would be single squeeze DDR it's a 2016 p has the die chips on left last archway and center triangle window it matches on Brian's Nickels.
