Hi all, I found this Jefferson in a jar of coins. I'm not familiar with Jefferson collectibles, and thought it had unusual toning. I was just wondering if anyone sees a reason for me to get excited about this find. Thanks!

You can keep it if you like but it doesn't add any value to it. It's Environmental Toning that occured after the coin was struck.

Personally, I like toned coins. While your nickel appears not to have any other things going on--like die doubling, clipped planchet , etc.--it could be a fun coin to hang on to.

Oh... Something else I noticed on the obverse was a raised metal cloth like pattern.. Circled in red.... Any ideas of what that is?

As I'm waiting for people to respond .. I noticed a few other things on the obverse!! Marked with Red arrow... A die Crack!! Circled in red.... Looks like a raised Star...? Could this be a Die Clash?

I believe the things ytou see are all evidence of corrosion. At one time it looks as if this nickel spent time buried or else possibly even in/close to a fire.

"Save the best coins, spend the rest." (Spender) If it were a coin variety, the value would be reduced probably to just face value.

Agree this is just environmental damage.

I have to say there is nothing about this coin to get excited about . Looks like PVC and corrosion has taken over your coin which makes it a details coin . You can try an acetone soak and then Verdi-Care treatment but don't get your hopes up it's in pretty bad shape .

If the toning you see is green, it's prob not toning. You could try the acetone or verdicare others have suggested. But if the verdigris has been on there long enough, it will have eaten into the coin. Removing can leave the coin pitted, which often looks worse that the green stuff. Spend it, and quickly, before the green stuff gets on any of your other coins.
