I have this beautiful 1921 P Morgan is there any chance it could be a chapman? Or does anyone know the VAM number? I understand the rarity of the Chapman proof but the detail and strike quality of this coin are well above your regular 1921 and actually better than most 1880 S mint morgans I never have much luck with identifying vams

I hope you can see these pics
Thanks,

....to the Community!

I don't think it's a Chapman but it is a very nice Deep Mirror Proof Like Morgan dollar!

I'm sure a Morgan expert will chime in shortly.

Very nice coin!

Not a zebre or Chapman proof but a DMPL, which is very scare on 1921 morgans.

Not a Chapman or Zerbe for that matter. Both are D1 17 berries reverse, your coin is a D2 16 berries reverse. Unfortunately, if you want to figure out what VAM this one matches you'll probably need to go through the scribbles guide.

and to the CCF!

Thank you everyone for your help DAVE700X I have read elsewhere that the Chapman proof is usually a 16 berries reverse and PCGS has CERTIFIED both. the zerbe that will usually have 17. other then the barries are there any other significant die markers?

Here is the VAMworld page with die markers for the 17 berry reverse.http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.c...1921-P_PROOF

edit to add - after searching further here is a link to the VAM-3BV die pairing that may be a 16 berry Chapman proof. Many if not all of the images are for business strike examples from the same die pair that matches the Jack Lee example. Read the descriptions carefully..http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.c...21-P_VAM-3BV

I can't speak to the proof part of this, but that is one gorgeous DMPL Morgan! Worth slabbing in any case IMO.

Yowza! That may be one of the biggest understatements I've ever seen on CCF. That is one spectacular 1921!

Thank you dave I just need to send it in I need carefully and looked closely I dont see. Its probably me ill ask PCGS to attribute the VAM there is an old coin wholesaler by my parents and I always stop in there. sometimes he has good stuff and he always gives me a good deal this coin was in a very old cardboard flip that said $22 the writing and flip were from an earlier decade and clearly not his, so I jokingly said "can I have this for $22" he charged me CA sales tax and I'm in to it for almost $24. Definitely my best coin shop find

I could be wrong, but I'm fairly confident that its a counterfeit. At first, I thought it looked too good to be true, and the details don't match up with other 1921 Morgans I've seen. For example, the O in "Dollar" is too flat and the details on the coin overall seem too mushy and crude to be from the US mint. Here's a pic of a PL Morgan I found on PCGS for comparison...

Anyway, I'm not trying to rain on your parade. I sincerely hope that I'm wrong and that you have something cool!

I really don't think its a fake maybe its just the way the pic looks heres a few more there is nothing mushy / crude about the coin in hand the quality of the detail in it is what lead me to believe it could be a proof ill post PCGS true view pics after I send it in

If anyone is still looking at this post I just got my grades back from PCGS PCGS DECIDED THAT ITS AN AVERAGE COIN AND GAVE IT AN (MS63) PLAIN OLD 63 WHAT A RIP OFF I have looked at every PL 1921 I could find 63 64 AND 65 all in PCGS holders not a single one had mirrors as strong as mine luster as flashy as mine cameo as frosty as mine none had any attractive eye appeal BUT MINE IS JUST A PLAIN OLD $30 AVERAGE MS63 1921 Morgan silver dollar. I SHOWED THE COIN TO A FEW CURRENT AND PAST PCGS EMPLOYEES (NUMISMATIC EXPERTS) AND GOT A COMBINED OPINION OF MS64PL-MS65PL AND WAS TOLD I SHOULD DEFINITELY SEND IT IN. I GET THE GRADES THE DAY THEY ANNOUNCE THEY ARE CLOSING FOR 2 WEEKS.

THANKS FOR LISTENING TO ME RANT I KNOW THERE ARE MUCH BIGGER CONCERNS IN AMERICA RIGHT NOW. ILL PROBABLY CRACK IT OUT AND SEND IT TO NGC OR THROW IT IN THE JUNK SILVER BUCKET

I know it is the same coin you sent in but for some reason the original pics of the coin (blue background) look very different from the last pics of the coin (black background).

Strange.
