I recently purchased my first roll of Lincoln Halves primarily for the silver value, but one of the coins had a really cool looking rainbow finish to it.

On the front, the coloring is primarily around the edge, however, on the obverse, it almost completely covers the coin and has some interesting purple hues.

As I am new to coin valuation beyond their precious metal content, I was wondering if this coloration: hurts the vale, increases the value, or had no impact.

Any information more experienced collectors could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Looks like normal toning from paper bank wrapped rolls from long ago. Some like toning, others do not. It does not affect the numerical grade either way, up or down. For example, a MS64 grade can be toned or white brilliant uncirculated.
Some will pay additional for attractive toning, others would rather not have a toned coin. It's up to you. I tend to like natural toning. Of course you might have had a mental slip up. Which we all do. These are Franklin halves.

Lol, yes. I am new to coins, but can usually tell the difference between Abe and Ben, hahaha. Sorry about that. I will try to edit.

Rainbow toning is a hot commodity right now with lots of people doing it artificially. Yours appears natural. To the right collector that adds value. Like you I got started for the silver/gold value. But have expanded. Normally to me circulated franklins are just silver value. But that one is pretty. I'd put it in a 2x2 and keep it with my nicer stuff.

mjustin24: to the CCF!

I am in the process of finding as many types U.S. Half dollar coins possible from the early 1800's onwards.

Of reasonable size, they make a nice statement of U.S. coinage history.

TNG has made a good balanced statement about toner coins.

Nice coin, great toning! If posted on ebay, I'd be bidding.
Rest in Peace

Your coin appears to be circulated so colorful toning isn't sort after as much as if it were Gem MS . As stated above some collectors like toned coins and some don't . It's just a matter of preference . I for one like Blast white on my Gem silver .

Nice coin. As to correcting anything, usually not necessary. And if you would have left it alone, you would get lots and lots of people trying to correct you anyway.

I would leave the coin as is. It appears uncirculated and it has toning which some people will pay more for.
