I bought another Halfcrown today, but its not so shiny and you will have to wait until late July before you see it on this thread (Its from 1826!). I may post the coin in the UK thread though.

1922 was the last year of penny issue in the UK for 4 years. Yet since the bronze penny had been introduced in 1860, every year had seen coins issued.

This coin is better than average for well used pennies of this time, which survived right through to 1970.

POSTSCRIPT - Thanks NumisRob for showing the Halfcrowns and the fact we had that important change.

I actually bought a pair of 22's but off the same guy who sold me the others and offered me several coins sight unseen hence why no photo, but he mentioned that change in design.

Not exactly your usual 1922 coin - even though the condition sucks.

This lucky find, for "only" about $30, was the coin that catapulted my Soviet circulating non-gold* type set idea from "haha, are you serious?" to "hey, this might actually work".

I showed this coin to about half a dozen different dealers on the market where I bought it, all of whom unanimously agreed that the coin was really badly preserved (AG-3 details or thereabouts) but almost certainly real - especially since, most likely, nobody in their right mind would mess a counterfeit up that badly.
