Have you compared it against pictures of the real deal, such as on the PCGS coinfacts website? Also, can you please post the weight of this piece? Notice on the genuine coin, the lettering and devices are sharp and smooth, the edges well defined. On yours, they are kind of fuzzy and rough. This is because the fake coin was cast in a mold, not struck by dies. A corroded genuine coin can look somewhat like this, but not exactly. Most likely the weight is off as well, most of the fakes are cast from some other easier to work metal. It really comes down to experience, look at as many genuine coins as you can. I've been collecting colonial coins for over 40 years and am learning all the time, so it doesn't happen overnight! Report this Post to the Staff
