*** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. Titles are Important! ***Does anyone think this could be an 1877. Also - if not - any idea on the year. Would one of the better slabbers like PCGS, NGC or ANACS put it in a holder stating a year. Thanks for your input !

Last digit looks rounded at the top in this photo, hence more like a 2, 3, 6 or 8. We have lots of experienced collectors of Indian Head cents out here who will give you a more expert opinion.

Yep it's 1878, sure you can get it slabbed, I doubt you would get much for it though.

I want to say 1872, but I'm not an expert, and it might look different in hand.
Definitely not a 7 in there, though.

to CCF. 8 or 2 not a 7. Try taking the pic in black & white, the numbers might show up better. John1

A TPG would only slab it if they can definitely make out the date. If they could, it may come back as a PO1 which would be a good Lowball IHC.

Thanks to all of you - in hand seems more like a 7 ( Wishful thinking ). I thought possibly 1872 or 1878 if not 1877. Definitely not worth grading for those. Thanks again - Bob ( New Member )

I too suspect a 2. Not worth having it graded

Well it's not an 1877 there is no softness in the lower portion of the N in one.

Figured not 1877 - just hoping. I didn't know they had soft N's. Found this in a lot of 500 culls. Once in a while there are some fairly valuable ones to be found.
