I know I'm a good three, four years past the original post date but while trying to find some information about one of my Buffalos, Google bright up this thread.
Not sure what you ever determined your Buffalo was, but I have a similar one. Unreadable date, though if I got a decent amount of sleep the night before and look at it long enough, I'd narrow it down to the teens, either 1913 or 1915. It's mostly a uniform brown color with some "aged green" spots throughout, though the reverse seems to have a couple spots of "rust" color. It's weighing in around 4.74/5g, which is kind of light.
Any suggestions at this late date? And I apologize ahead of time for the really crappy photos :/
Since nickel five cent pieces are 75% Copper 25% Nickel, any environmental factors that normally would affect copper will do the same for this coin. I agree with @Silverstream123 and @Coinfrog, this one has spent years in the ground. It's an interesting find, though!
