I found this 1960 P Large date LMC and my very first thought was MD, but it's not. Then I thought DDD, but what I am seeing is going towards the center and does not flow towards the rim. I can't rule anything out as I have never seen this on any device/devices before. When I first louped it I could see the outline of each number of the date but when I turned the coin I could see two outlines and on the 9 I could see three lines. Everything I am seeing tells me this is a EDS and MDS at worst. Any help on telling me what I am seeing for the first time is greatly appreciated.

Early stages of Die Deterioration Doubling? I don't know. Just a guess.

That was my second thought but I've never seen DDD move towards the center. It always moves towards the rim. I just scratched my head and thought I would post it. It may very well be some type of weird DDD.

Interesting coin and while I don't have anything to add, I'm interested to see what @coop says about this one.

I am in the I don't know camp...

But my guess would be some type of tripling but not DDD.

My guess is that, if not DDD, it is some sort of MD.

It is definitely not MD. I don't know, maybe Mike Diamond will see this post, between him and coop or tanman, I think they'll be able to give me a definitive answer.

Looks like the attention is drawn toward the incuse areas. The rest of that area doesn't appear raised. I would hang onto it for now. Below the '6' looks like a lamination or a struck through debris. If it were die wear it would be on the sides facing the rim direction.

Machine doubling. It is unusual, but MD can sometimes cause tripling. Die Deterioration does occur toward the rim not toward the center.
