Now this one isn't one of the two in the CherryPickers' Guide; although seeing how strong it is and how seemingly rare it is, I'm surprised it isn't. It seems to match the description of NGC Variety Plus's VP-007 (Cross-References to Fletcher-13) but NGC has no photos of it. Can someone help to confirm this is VP-007/Fletcher-13? https://www.NGCcoin.com/variety-plu...1883/815979/I also can't seem to find any images of this DDR online, these may be the first out there. I'm glad to be able to share them. It has a strong spread on UNITED STATES OF and the stars below it. Seems to bea Class IV doubled die. I listed it as 1870 5c CRDR-003 on my site (Holding -001 and -002 for the Cherrypickers' DDRs): http://crdievarieties.com/doku.php?...8705ccrdr003I paid $25 for it off ebay. How'd I do? Thoughts? Opinions?

I can only find a link to the trail SNV. Can't seem to find where the main version is.

Wow that's fairly strong to not be CPG listed. Nice pick!

Very nice DDR! How is it not in the CPG yet? Hopefully they're adding it. Amazing pick either way!

I bought a copy of Howard Spindel's Shield nickel Viewer and I received it today. This 1870 DDR is not listed by Spindel. I emailed these pics to Spindel to see what he thinks.

Good luck! Surprising that a doubled die this strong went unnoticed for so long.

Spindel just listed this coin as S1-2005.
He used a few of my photos and I have "contributor credit" for the variety.
He says Fletcher-13 (VP-007) is a good match, but Fletcher doesn't have enough images to 100% positive.
So nobody had any good images of this coin before mine. Gotta be a tough one to find then!

Newbie here...I'm learning about double dies, varieties, RPM etc. Is it appropriate to ask what is meant by "Strong Spread" in reference to these photos? I maybe see something on the base of the 'N' but other than that, I'm missing something. While I wait for a response, I will reference some of the links posted here as well.

This coin is in very low grade, so it can be difficult to spot the doubling at first. The doubling is strongest (or most noticeable) on the TED in UNITED. You can see separation between the two hubbings. The first hubbing was weak, it was missing serifs and some parts of the letters were extremely thin or nearly non-existent. I highlighted the first hubbing in red and the second in green. Hopefully that helps you spot the doubling.
