Interesting Looking1989 Penny. Doubled Die Obverse / DDO ?

icollect45 New Member United States 18 Posts	Posted 01/29/2020 03:48 am Hello all, Happy Wednesday! Had some free time and decided to throw some coins under my magnifier, and this penny caught my attention! I've looked through 100s of pennies, and never seen something like this. Is this possibly a DDO? I've seen many other years that look a bit similar to this coin, (1980 specifically) but then again, I looked at all types of 1989 DDO pennies, and nothing matched, so not really getting my hopes up. I've seen the Die Deterioration before posting, but I was talking about the actual separation/spread in the numbers(on date) I will try to provide photos pointing it out shortly. coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 01/29/2020 6:45 pm On the black arrows you are seeing Machine Doubling. The DDD is on the outside edge of the date in the sides facing the closest rim. So you have MD and DDD. Neither creating a premium for the coin. Report this Post to the Staff

I tried clicking on the link to see different types of Machine Doubling, but can not seem to find anything same as this coin. Do you know where I can find this type of Machine Doubling? Thanks again. coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 01/29/2020 11:27 pm Machine Doubling is random. It can vary from strike to strike: Note on these cents I found in a OBW roll. Note each of them are slightly different. They will never list Machine Doubling as a collectable as it is not like a doubled die, that can be listed as is is variable from strike to strike. Also very common. Caused right after the coin is struck. Also the DDD is die wear and progressively get worse as the die ages. So neither will be listed or collected.
