Hi all! I manage car washes and go through thousands of coins and paper bills per week. I joined this site to start looking up some of the interesting or old coins I find. Are there any coins I should keep an eye out for? Thanks!

Put aside any coins dated in the BC time. And if you do find a coin dated 33 BC, for sure keep that one. Actually try to keep every coin. They all will be worth something some day.

just some coins to watch for:

silver dimes, quarters, halves; (dunno if your car wash/es handle many cents, but...) wheat cents; Indian Head cents; the newer W quarters; proofs; buffalo & V nickels; War Nickels; foreign coins...

there are too many different errors & varieties to list, but there are mintmark errors & varieties, lamination errors, clipped planchets, rotated dies, mule coins...

there's a lot to be watching out for. dunno how much time you get to sift thru everything, but if it were me i'd be making time to sit & sift. if I couldn't do it all myself i'd get a helper. once you start sifting & searching with some regularity- combined with the knowledge you'll no doubt accumulate along the way- you'll sort of develop your own search criteria & methods. with the mass of coin accumulated even from just one car wash i'd think your chances of finding interesting & collectible coins are quite high. i'd come out of retirement to do that job. I love searching thru huge accumulations of change, one of my favorite things to do.

color me slightly jealous, lol!

Dimes, quarters and half dollars 1964 and earlier - they are 90% silver and worth 12 to 13 times their face amount (so a dime is worth $1.20-1.30).

Half dollars 1965-70 are 40% silver.

Nickels 1942-45 with a big mink mark over the dome. These are silver and worth around a buck apiece.

Wheat pennies (1958 or earlier).

Any penny, nickel, dime, quarter or half dollar that's not like the current design - i.e., Indian Head cents, Buffalo nickels, etc.

Any silver dollar 1935 or earlier.

Paper bills I know less about but maybe save anything 1950s or older.
