Jason 3011: to the CCF!
These Five Shilling (One Crown) pieces were known as 'Casey's Cartwheels' after the politician who supported their introduction. Unpopular with the Public, because they were too big to be a practical circulating coin. Popular with collectors. Sterling silver, .925 fine, 0.841 oz ASW.

Loss of definition in the King's hair, bands on the orb a the top of the crown flat.

Grade?
EF (Australian grading), for our American friends:- AU-55,(Sheldon).

AU-55 (Sheldon) sounds right, but unsure of what's happened to the surfaces on the portrait side.

To me it's struggling to get to VF, with all that damage on the obverse.

According to the OP, this coin has been sitting at the bottom of a drawer for decades, obverse down. Has been in contact with whatever it has been sitting on, for a very long time. Hair and cheek rubbing suggests that it has been moved around a bit, in contact with the surface.

Too much damage the details would have been nice but for the buckshot.

Lots of wear on hair, eyebrow and cheek, even without the usual dings and staining, this coin is Vf to Vf+ at best or about VF25 in American grading. It is an average example of this coin.

The reverse looks AU but the obverse might hold this one to EF-45.
