Is It My Imagination, Or Have Wheat Pennies Disappeared?

I haven't logged on here in forever but one thing that prompted me to return here was the fact that I began collecting coins seriously about 5 years ago at this time of the year. One thing I remember happening was the fact that wheat pennies were uncommon, but generally findable in circulation if you kept looking. Now, it seems like they've all been hoarded since I can't remember the last time I found a Wheat penny at all. I'm not complaining about anything but it's just an observation I made that I thought I'd share.

I don't go out of my way to CRH, so most of the money I find comes from the vending machine coin returns at school and the Coinstar reject bins in the rare instance that there's actually money there. Back when I worked at the pharmacy (from September 2015 till May of last year), I found wheat pennies so often, I wouldn't even trade it out if it was from the 1950s since I rarely remembered to keep change on me and usually didn't feel like getting a pocket full of change from trading a dollar for an equal amount in coins when I was counting down the registers. Now it's the exact opposite, I haven't found a Wheat penny in MONTHS, not even in the Coinstar rejects when checking.

Is this something that's across the board where others are finding less wheats than 5 years ago, or is it just a regional thing?
