I have a mixture of small and large sized bills stored in binders, individual holders, etc. I was reading somewhere that some of the plastic holder are bad for the bills and can damage them over time. I tried researching a little bit but couldn't really find a clear answer.

I have the soft plastic individual sleeves as well as hard. I usually put them in the soft sleeves first and then in the harder ones. Is it better to just put the bills straight into the hard holders? Which hard and soft holders are safe to use for long term storage? Thanks!

I think soft sleeves and hard folders is a little overkill. Hard folders are bulky, in my opinion.

There's nothing wrong with getting soft mylar or polyester holders, or getting mylar album pages and getting a nice three ring binder.

Just avoid PVC.

For some reason I'm having a hard time trying to find the PVC free stuff for the harder holders. Some have PVC but they claim it isn't harmful to the bills, not really sure what to believe. I was going to order these for my small bills:

https://www.amazon.com/Currency-Top...2C149&sr=8-8

Finding ones for larger bills seems to even more difficult. The closest thing I found is this:

https://www.amazon.com/BCW-Currency...2C173&sr=8-2

Again, vinyl made but in the comments it says they are apparently "safe" to use. Should these be sufficient for long term storage without fear of damage?

You'll get MANY responses; but for over 30 years I've trusted these for paper money; checks; stocks, etc.

Regarding the doubling... I think it's overkill for paper money.

I DO use that technique on baseball/trading cards. First they go into a penny sleeve (soft, protects the glossy finish of the card), then a top loader (rigid), and then in a resealable card-sized bag (expendable, protects the top loader from scratches).

The big bills go into a BIG binder.

The little bills go into a little binder.

Dizzy thread. Simple and cheap non-PVC stiff holders available in both sizes from many sites. Try http://www.wizardcoinsupply.com .
