Hello CCF.

This is quite unique with a fully exposed "brain area" -- machine misaligned in minting process? The circular fine linear pattern seems to parallel that circular flow (inner circular part north of the rim)?

Please help us with the forensics of this one. Thank you.

Almost certain it's damage caused by a coin wrapper rolling machine. Not an error in the actual minting process.

Just been damaged.
Something has scraped the copper off of the zinc core.

looks like it could even be vending machine damage. Deep cuts, but PSD for sure.

I've been coin roll hunting and skipping these. They are such trash coins to begin with. Combine that with my inabilitiy to detect an error, I re-roll these without inspection. I might be missing a bunch but I hate shield pennies. I cull them immediately on opening a roll.

*Edit to change ability to INability - I'm not good at diagnosing errors yet :)

@ DeadElvis...the Philly minted LSCs do have some nice sized DDOs...I'd check for those (however I'm in So. Cal and only run into 8 to 10 at best Philly cents)
