I have both these issues but I do see a problem with them. I was doing or upgrading my .50 cent pieces and all my notes are from the 2013 or 67th issue and form 1996 to 2001P you have your MS - PL - PF and SP coins.
In the 2020 73rd issue 1996 has NO PL, then from 1997 to 2001P it does NOT list any thing for Proof
Does anyone know what we had minted in the .50 cents from 1996 to 2001P ?

There were no PL coins in 1996. The coins in Uncirculated sets (in pliofilm) have Specimen finish. Proof coins from 1997 and later were moved into Vol.2 because they have different composition than the circulation coins.

The 67th Edition is awesome though... because of the nickel dollar variety section!!

All I have is the 18th edition, but that is quite good enough for me. I don't collect modern NCLT. Don't need to worry about coin prices; they can be found on-site. Surprisingly, it still gets used quite a lot.

I would not call it "wrong" in this particular case. There was a prolonged debate about 1996 coins in Uncirculated sets whether to call them NBU or SP. Then there was a statement that those coins were Specimen. Unfortunately, I did not save the link to that "verdict". My own eyes tell me that the finish is Specimen: lined field, frosted legend, frosted crown. Certainly not NBU as per definition. And I cannot see any significant difference between 1996 coins from PL sets and from Specimen sets. Though there is one exception: some Uncirculated sets contain 50 cents coin with a shiny crown and have barely visible field lining. I am not sure whether that is a variety or just a stage of the die, I just keep both kinds :-)
The problem with Charlton, IMHO, is not the numerous mistakes in the catalog, but that it takes very long, if ever, to fix them.
