While checking my 5 cent coins, I found one that has me a bit confused as to the origin of what I am calling a Die fault. The fault lies from under the "R in Australia thru to the last "0" in the date. I would appreciate any comments as to the origin, please.
Regards - Ian

Hi Bookmarker and to the forum!
My feeling is that it is PMD (Post Mint Damage- so damaged after it left the Mint). It appears that something has dragged the metal from right to left in the area that you have depicted ... maybe a Coin Wrapping Machine?

By the way congratulations on your nice clear closeups but it also helps to show photos of the whole coin, as well as both sides.

Maybe a Moderator can move your post to the appropriate section where I'm sure that you'll get further opinions.

It looks like impact damage, to my eye.

PMD IMO. There appears to be a little corrosion sweeping across the coin over the affected area, which would not be evident if it occurred at the mint, during the striking process.

My take on this is as the damage follows the circle of the coin, it makes sense that it's PMD from a coin rolling/wrapping machine.

Coin rolling machine makes sense, the damage is in the right spot for that
