This may be old hat to many on this forum, but it was new to me. I hope none will mind my sharing it.
We are all familiar with George Kruger Gray's coin designs. They are brilliant art, and among the most beautiful and iconic of Canadian coins. He was also a gifted painter and stained glass maker.
What I never had heard before is that he nearly drowned in 1893, in the same incident that tragically cost the life of his brother and a friend. He was rescued by a teacher named Eyton Owen, who risked his own life to save him from what sounds like a rip tide. Here is an
