I got an email that said this year's silver proof set has an initial run off 190,000. Since it's going to be coupled with the w minted reverse proof nickel I might have to pick one or two up after all.
If the covid-19 blows over in a month or two and they really jump up production then I would be super happy, but if not, I think production of a silver proof set might not be a high priority for the government and this might end up being a relatively rare product.
In any case, good wishes of health and safety to all.

I keep away from all proof sets now. Over the years they have shown to be a really bad investment.

The silver proof set is on an enrollment for me, I was going to skip as they went up $9, but with a limited availability.... I'm no longer saying no...

It's on enrollment for me too. And I'll keep mine -- looking forward to that special nickel and potentially low (relatively) mintage.
I'm with you, keith12. Not an investment for me... just enjoyment.

Does anyone think the set will be an automatic sell out on day 1? Nobody knows if they will mint more sets than the 190k, but with the virus going on imo there's a good chance they do not, but that's complete speculation. I was hoping to get 2, and if they sell out, sell one and get enough to where my first set is free.

It will be interesting to see if there is a sellout. I am sure everyone remembers 2012. They will jump on this sooner rather than later.

Fingers crossed that the household limit will be more than one so that a CCF friend will be able to get me this set.

I have two in the queue through their subscription service. They sent me the first notice, then a second notice, each indicating two sets. I will know for sure come Friday, April 17th.

There is no household limit. Something tells me the third party sellers will be buying these up quick.

I know each year they sell about 400K or more of the silver sets and that was before the W nickel freebie was added, and before they switched to 99.9% silver.
I mean it's possible this set sells out quick but it won't be in the first day unless home shopping tries to scam people (which they will) on a massive level (they might not) they will most likely buy a few thousand sets each and call it a day.
One thing is certain though, I can almost bet the mint will revisit making more sets of them before the end of the year if the initial 190k sells out. I think they are trying to entice the home shopping channels and speculators into buying up the first 190K really quickly. then make a 2nd run so they don't have a lot of silver sitting on the shelf waiting to be sold.
I wouldn't count on it being a long run winner, but you could probably make some money in the short term if they sell the first 190K out, and it takes a bit for them to make more.
for sure that Mike guy will be saying "only 190K of these available! Gee whiz, it hasn't been this low since 1953! And with the current situation, who knows if they will make any more this year, you really don't want to miss out on this opportunity of a lifetime!"
LOL!

I think this will be a low issue year. Consumers are hurting, and my local coin dealers aren't even open, so there's no way they're going to buy inventory that will just sit around. Whether it's a low year issue for everything or just some things, who knows, but I'll buy a silver proof set just for the enjoyment factor anyway. With one exception: What the heck is going on with the design of that Salt River Bay quarter?
