Hi all, I hope this is the correct place for a question like this. I recently purchased this token/coin thing for the sheer novelty factor but I cannot find anything about it online. Does anyone have any idea where it came from? It is way too detailed and we'll executed to be a one off in my opinion and I don't think it was made to deceive collectors because of the novel design. This one has me scratching my head a little. Many thanks, Matt :) Edit: It is 23.055mm in diameter and 1.723mm thick. *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***Edited by mcstone 04/02/2020 12:27 pm

If this isn't a day-late April Fools joke using photoshop, then I bet this piece was manufactured in China.

Clearly not meant to deceive collectors since it's the size of a quarter. Pretty well done for a novelty piece!

That's what I was thinking, looks like a lot of effort went into making it!

could it be sized to fake a gold piece for the person jumpy about the gold buying frenzy with the TV ads and almost every pawn shop hyping gold. Thus the high quality of detail and finish.

Possibly some casino token?
Decades ago - Silver dollar casinos were all the rage - I read somewhere about how some used silver dollars - mostly common Morgans and Peace ones, and they would file dates and mint marks and dates off to stop coin collectors.
That token is the size of a gold $5 coin, but much lighter. It could easily be from some long forgotten 50s, 60s or 70s casino.
Otherwise it could even be a brothel token!

Oooh! Thanks for the input, I had no idea tokens like that existed. I'll start looking into it. Maybe I'll start with some research at the casino... I'll give the brothel a miss tho ;)
