I found a very strange looking patina on 1952 D Lincoln Cent. I am not sure of the terminology. Does the 1952 penny have cladding? The best way to describe the patina is bubbling all over. Thanks JPGrajek

to CCF. Please post full coin photo of the obverse and reverse. Weight? It does not have cladding. John1

@jpgrajek, first welcome to CCF. Second this coin did not leave the mint with this rough surface texture. If the coin is underweight, then I think that the frog is correct about it spending some time in acid. Otherwise, it is roughness from some sort of mechanical means. I'm tempted to speculate that it is a so-called "parking lot coin", but normally those have larger, deeper gouges. Maybe this spent time on cement rather than asphalt?

Looks like exposure to acid--or similar agent. A photo of the reverse would help.

Thanks All. Thanks Spence, I have never heard the term "Parking Lot" coins before but it sums up nicely the damage I see on a lot of coins.

So of the coin is under weight, then it is an acid bath. If the weight is normal, then it is damage to the coin. Either way, it is a damaged coin.

Thanks Coop. I was 99% sure it was damage done while in circulation. It was in with coins from my father's collection not in his coin books or other protective sheathing.
Thanks All.
