Has anyone seen this?

This coin is 4.90g and slightly thicker than the average nickel. It is not magnetic. It was done by spark erosion then silver washed. You can see copper-coloring on the raised bumps and high points on the lower bust and the date that have worn through. There is a particularly large bump on the obverse by the chin and hundreds of smaller ones that didn't photograph. The empty field above the Monticello is remarkable and photographed quite well.

Was it really worth the effort to produce a fake that had minimal monetary and little numismatic value?

I don't see a counterfeit there. Just environmental damage and wear.

You may want to do a gravity test. I think it is a real War Nickel. War Nickels were made with copper, silver and manganese.
Rest in Peace

I have to admit it does look strange , but I never heard of a 1943-P counterfeit War Nickel .
There are Henning Nickels that are counterfeit but not a 43-P .

Looks like a War Nickel that has seen better days. The only counterfeit nickels I know of are Hennings, and this is NOT one.
