Hello to all, I am new at this game and need help! I inherited a few coins and I have been rummaging through a bucket of change collected over the past 4 or 5 years. Needless to say I have questions.
I thought I would start with this 1943D. Getting a good picture has been a problem because it very shinny. I was able to get a good picture of what I think is a D/D. Am I correct?

Looks like a plating bubble. The zinc core is rotting it will have pit where the bubble is soon.

Although impossible to tell from the lighting in the pics, your cent may be plated. This was done to many of them to be included in special coin sets that were given away for promotional items for such things like opening a new bank account (speaking from experience in the 70s).

Note how what appears as a second D is very enlarged and smeared. This may be a result of the plating process.

Just a guess from what I have seen before.

@cj, the coin is steel right? (not zinc)

They are steel coated in zinc normally. When they get rusty, the buff them off and plate them. The value is ruined with they are restored. How can you tell they have been plated? Seeing a re-platted one next to a normal one, show how you can tell:

exactly. You can tell it's plated from the shiny appearance. True steel cents are duller in appearance.
