Does anyone have the book Profitable Coin Collecting by David L. Ganz and is able to share the section on 1933 double eagle timeline, the list with dates and events? My local library has the book, but they are all closed now, and they don't have any ebook copies to loan. Thanks!

My copy just was moved to the storage unit, so I can't help, but you might find a lot of what you are looking for here in this video. Besides it's really interesting to watch regardless. From the FBI prosecutors office. Found it while browsing the NNP, as I regularly do.

Thanks! Good ideas. I should take advantage of the free ANA membership too for the research, now that I've registered for it.

I wonder if they have anything on how the Secret Service operated to find these coins?

I suggest you find a copy of the book "Illegal Tender" which is an excellent history of the coins, the people that ended up with them and the Secret Service agents that relentlessly searched them out. It was written in 2004 before the additional specimens held by the heirs of Israel Switt (who was eventually connected to all the illegally held 1933's) were made public and submitted to the mint for authentication and subsequently seized by the Secret Service. Great read, such an interesting story.

Looks like the RCNA library has a copy of that book. I will check it out when things reopen!

Or just buy your own copy on abebooks for about $7.60 (includes shipping)

You can get Illegal Tender at the same site for $4 including shipping.

It's a great read! Got a copy before a long plane trip to read, finished more than half by the time I landed, it was hard to put down, picked it back up later that night in bed, when I should have been sleeping, but had gained a couple hours flying so what the heck, finished the book before I returned from the trip.

Next up was to get "Double Eagle: The Epic Story of the World's Most Valuable Coin" by Alison Frankel. I liked both books, I think David Tripp's book was better researched, while Alison's book read more like a story or novel. It pick's up speed in the second half, while the first half of Alison's book is pretty dry and spends lots of time developing the characters.

I still need to get and read James Twining's book on the story as well. http://www.jamestwining.com/learn-m...double-eagle just one more book for my library, not that there is much more room.

One quick add is this link to a pdf file of the Playboy story that came before and possibly inspired the James Twining's book. http://www.thelizardkingbook.com/bc...yapril04.pdf NOTE: nothing revealing in this story from a Playboy point of view, just a really good article.
