Background:So I recently finally finished collecting all five 2019-W ATB Quarters and got them graded by NGC, and selected one quarter for each issue. What I'm curious about is what many of you think what the grade is, then in the end I will reveal the actual grades. The point of this exercise is to share some knowledge on what makes or breaks a grade. Winner (or winners) who get it all correct will get bragging rights . Instructions:Many of you will have different grading preferences, some will be harsher, others will be more lax. For this exercise I want everyone to grade based on NGC's grading (since, that is where they were slabbed). You may use any resource you like such as published reference photos of the design. You must grade all five coins. To best simulate being an actual grader, I will note certain marks on the coin that are dirt spots, water marks, etc. if it isn't obvious (since I can handle the coin and examine it under a light). Images were taken in conditions very similar to actual NGC graders (essentially a desk lamp), with lighting at an angle to reveal all or as many of the features on the coin's surface as possible. Viewed on this post, these images are a bit larger than the 5-6X mag loupe the real graders use, so please take that into account. Also the photos were taken in a consistent manner (light position, camera position). Finally if there are any questions feel free to ask and I will answer the best I can. For your answers please list it in the following order: Lowell: American Memorial Park: War in the Pacific: San Antonio Missions: River of No Return: If I get enough responses I'll even make histograms so we can see how people graded! Good luck! Lowell:

American Memorial Park:

War in the Pacific: On the reverse there are a few marks above the "T" of "THE" that is on the holder and not the coin. On obverse there are 3 pieces of lint inside the holder around Washington's neck and back of the hair. Also the mark right above his eye is some grime.

San Antonio Missions: On the reverse there is some grime stuck to the coin below the right side of the bundle of wheat. On the obverse the black mark under "ED" of "UNITED" is just a reflection of a dust particle on the inside of the holder.

River of No Return:

Last call to put in your best guess as to what grade these coins actually got! I will post them as links to the NGC certification so if people still want to guess they can without seeing the answers.

WOW, If the AMP is a MS67 I should send in mine immediatel! LOL
Surprised with the edge contact marks across the steps they would put it above MS65 for real.
THis encourages me to send my best examples for grading. Thanks for the reveal!

Haha you're welcome Big-Kingdom. This exercise was also helpful for me in calibrating my attempt at grading the first two 2020 W quarters I'll be sending in soon. I think it'll be way cheaper to get really good examples through auction and then submit myself, rather than pay the couple hundred for a graded MS67. Perhaps more interestingly this means I should dial in at least a +1 grading offset from what people say here

Very nice results! ! I submitted 3 to ANACS that came back 67, testing my non-professional grading skills. I'm waiting for another one to come back at the moment.
