the man I got this beautiful half dollar from sent it to me in a plastic that had a black cardboard insert. no date on it like I have seen on others. id have to look but the words "memorial half dollar" were definitely on it. he told me that he lived just 3 miles from the kennedy compound. he said that after the assassination of the president this coin in these plastics were being given out for free to everyone there. he said the streets were littered with the plastic cases that I received it in. so anyone that has an opinion that this coin might not be something special hardly holds the story this man has. this is the most interesting beautiful coin. looks totally different some days than others. its almost like an alexandrite gemstone. this isn't saying much about the priorities in my life but I have more pictures of this coin than of myself, my mother, my father, my girlfriend, my dog all put together.

Great story but I must agree, it is by appearance a business strike coin that looks as if it has the RDV-002. What that mean it's the second design for the reverse.

Beautiful coin? yes
Most beautiful coin in the world? In my opinion, far from it.
EDIT: Er...I don't know what to think about your last statement, saying you have more photos of that coin than any of your family.
Kinda freaky to be honest, a bit strange and...not trying to be offensive but like...this coin is not worth much, so please, I beg that you don't value this coin, OR ANY COIN, above any human life.

One of the most common coins around , hardly the most beautiful . Also I highly doubt the Kennedy Compound free distribution story . The coins were initially released to the public in latter March 1964 . The black cased pieces were sold through department stores and Coin Shops all over North America and continually show even today .

Hmm, I expected to see an exquisite world coin with a beautiful design . But a Kennedy half dollar is the last coin I expected to see . All the comments that you've gotten and all the ones that have yet to come should tell you something about your coin that you have put on a pedestal .

Most "beautiful coin in the world"? Ahh, no. That honour would go to either the Mercury dime or Walking Liberty half. It's all up to personal opinion, you have yours, and I have mine.

I felt like I was reading one of those listings on ebay where the seller wants $5000.00 for a $10.00 coin
