This coin was purchased a while back to fill an empty hole in an album. I got it at a discount because of the damage and didn't think much of it until I recently stumbled across a completed auction of a cancelled foreign coin and couldn't help but think that the markings looked similar to those on my coin.

Is this PMD or could it be some type of error? Either way, does any one have an idea what may have caused it?

Here is the link to the foreign coin auction with similar markings: https://www.numisbids.com/n.php?p=l...38&lot=35149

Thanks!

My opinion is PMD (Post mint damage).

Looks like it was ran thru an embossing machine of some sort.

I'm thinking the jaws of a vise as well.
ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When in doubt, leave it dirty!!

Definitely not a mint error . Looks like somebody attempted to make a lattice apple pie out of the reverse .

I'm in the vise camp. Looks like the teeth in a vice jaws, there are similar Mark's on the obverse. So yeah, PMD.

Seems like there is a pretty strong consensus on a vice as being used to cause the damage. Thanks to all for the comments and help.
