I had sold a 99-03 State Quarter set on ebay Complete Brilliant Uncirculated, both P & D Mints for....$12.50. So ok I am taking a loss, a pretty big one from a numismatic view. So this guy receives the set and writes me these terrible threating emails in broken english, telling me how I cheated him...I don't get it. He bought a set, in a Harrison folder, for less than face on the quarters and he is mad at me. So I replied telling him the fair market value, not what the mags say they are worth, and explain that I would be more than happy to have them back to sell at FMV...waiting on reply. Anyone had any experiences like this?

Obviously he is an idiot. By Harrison folder I presune you meant a Harris folder? He got a great deal.
So, hopefully he'll send it back.

G'day, this quote is not exactly on point, but you'll get the drift: "Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake." - Napoleon Bonaparte (1769 - 1821)
Peter - a collector of Napoleonic coins, and quotations.

Quote: "Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake." Exactly ... offer him the refund without the explanation of their true value (minus shipping costs of course). This buyer deserves no better.

Thanks guys. I was ok with taking a loss, but I can't understand being mad when you get a heck of a deal.
Treashunt..yes I meant Harris Folder, didn't have the first cup of coffee yet. ;)

Unbelieveable buyer! This is exactly the type that will leave a negative feedback, too. Hope it all works out.

Prepare yourself for a neg, and protest it immediately!
what an idiot.
Ask him if English is his third language, translated from Greek. Then suggest that he add up the face values. The dummy will probably expect his postage back, both ways.

Neversuited1, not all buyers go through a screening process,i have seen some brain surgeons.I would hope for you, this person sends the set back. I HAVE MET UP WITH SOME REAL WINNERS AND YOU WOULD DO WELL TO "BE CIVIL AND HOPE FOR NO NEGATIVITY".Also relist the set and maybe someone who appreciates the "numismatic value" will win and enjoy the coins. BE WELL

I wouldn't have bothered with the "fair market value" I'd have just told him that if he wasn't happy you would be glad to give him a refund, just return them. Then when he did give him his refund, less shipping.

Quote: Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake. It is things like this that simultaneously amuse and frighten me. It strikes me this buyer simply doesn't understand value of US coins--"face" or numismatic value. Or, he has a habit of complaining to sweeten the dealer further--I've seen that too.

Sounds like a complete fool I dealt with on ebay once. Unfortunately, ebay has sided with the buyers and not the sellers. When it comes to feedback, sellers are screwed. Just with there was another company to compete with ebay that was just as popular. I'm tired of ebay.

A few years ago I ran a bunch of State Quarter roll auctions. One went under face but most made me a decent amount. I wasn't doing the ebay invoice thing and gave one buyer the wrong total which was LOWER than what he actually owed me. He sends me this scathing email about it and I'm like "dude I was tired and made a mistake you can have the darn things for what I said". Didn't really care honestly. Turned out alright though. He must have been having a bad day, apologized and paid the actual amount owed. Hey, People are strange!

Good Stuff from Everyone...Turns out Re: the neg feedback...well he left me possitive feedback as soon as he sent payment...? Crazy. He did only have a feedback score of 4. I guess everyone has to start somewhere, I hope he learns quickly or someone will def get a neg feedback from this guy.
The reason I didn't post it on this forum is that there are such mixed feelings about this collection, by mixed I mean 98% to 2% for the collector. I do have a complete unc set for myself from mint sets in a dansco though. And I think I am going to put together a silver proof set in a dansco.
I am amazed everyday, good and bad, of the people I come in contact with.
Thanks for all the responses. You guys had my sides aching from laughing esp the Napoleon quote. Such a perfect fit.
