I tried googling and searching your site but am more confused than ever. I found plenty of info up to 2008 but very little for after that. The feet on the bottom of the letters are confusing me. Just got a box of pennies to go thru so want to be totally clear on this. Business strikes are supposed to be Close AM from 1993 on except for 1998-2000? Proofs Wide AM? Reverse of that? Not even close to that? :) I will post some pics of 2015-2019 pennies all with what appears to be Wide AM. Sorry the Alzheimers makes this difficult for me. Ty for your help.

They are all the same. The difference you are seeing is between a normal die and a polished die. As the fields are polished, the devices get reduced from the removal of the fields. To the tapered devices get thinner looking:

On this coin the outside edge of the die was polished off and you can see the devices thin is size as it get closer to the edge of the die.

For future posts, please, one coin per thread. Otherwise, it get's confusing, especially if we want to comment on just one of the coins.

As Professor coop explained very well. what you have are over polished dies. With business strikes, after 2000, they are all Wide AM's.

Well in this case he did need to use two coins to show the differences. (an exception to the rule)

Actually after 1993 the normal business strikes should be close AMs. After 1994 the proof cents should be Wide AM's. Exceptions to the rules, I call them year varieties as they were not supposed to happen those years :

Coop, can I suggest an improvement for the first image.

Show two devices, close to each other, to show that as the field of the die gets ground down the devices on the coin not only become shallower, but that they also become further apart at the bases. That would help to illustrate why some Close AM coins have the AM almost touching while other Close AM coins have an obvious gap between the letters.
