What are your thoughts on this 1885-S Morgan? I'll post the ANACS grade in a couple days.

I'll say AU-58.

Seems dull in these pics. Tell us about the luster, if you would.

Somewhat muted luster, as pictured. Has some cartwheel, but not strong.

I'm sure they gave it an MS grade but with the signs of light circulation I can't see this above AU-58.

Newbie grader here, but I think I detect wear on the hair just above the ear, and also the eagle's breast feathers on the reverse. Though the image is just a tad washed out in these areas, which could also account for the lack of detail, or at least some of it. I'm tending toward AU.

I'll join in with the AU58 crowd.
The spots in the field in front of the portrait could suggest a dip at some point, which may explain the muted luster.

Looks like everyone was evenly split between 58 and 62, so I guess MS-61 is reasonable.

ANACS can be a bit stricter than PCGS or NGC so I'm going to award myself a cookie for going with MS-62!

Yes, you hit it right on with a relatively uncommon grade. Kudos to you, and I think that deserves two cookies!
