I am puzzled by this coin. I can find no documentation. It is a 1908 half dollar clearly stamped incorrectly. Then both sides of the coin are stamped with the word BAD. Any insight?

to the CCF!

It's a counterstamp on the coin. Someone added the letters with a punch after the coin left the mint.

Thanks for that feedback. Why do people cougterstanp? It was an error on the original minting.. easy to tell. Does this have value or in the fun coins with no value pile?

It can be a means to advertise on the U.S. coinage. To make a coin into a collectable, and sell for a higher price.

People counterstamp for many reasons-no reason or logic is necessary. One is simply the destructive urge-vandalism.

I think it is a contemporary counterfeit that was discovered and defaced by stamping BAD on it. (only one image is showing and it is too small and out of focus to be sure)

What does it weigh?
