I'm pretty sure that this is dried glue, perhaps with some remnant paper fibers from when this coin was stuck to a piece of paper. You could try soaking in water first to see if that softens up the glue.

This stuff might come off with some acetone. Try acetone on the coin first, see what happens. Not sure about the other anomalies.

If you haven't used acetone before, make sure to follow the label instructions and cautions. It's flammable and can explode if used improperly.

Quote: but I don't have any more acetone on me to test right now. Hopefully you didn't mean ON YOU. Although not really dangerous unless you light it. However, I do suggest purchasing some more and try a dip in that for this coin. Most of what I see does appear to be from glue.

Not a die crack . The glue or varnish seems likely . You said your out of Acetone so in an unorthodox way for this coin only because it's a circulated common date & mint ; GO ahead and use nail polish remover on it . That stuff on reverse should come off then rinse with water . DONOT use it on any other coins for any reason .

And here's the reverse post nail polish cleaner! I want to say it was all glue and the second photo is perhaps some ED around where the glue was?

That may also be because the area that formerly had glue on it was protected.
