1941 D Mercury Dime. Die Crack? Struck Through?

The struck through looks like it could be a varnish, but I don't have any more acetone on me to test right now. Report this Post to the Staff

Spence Moderator United States 34398 Posts	Posted 05/21/2020 8:58 pm I'm pretty sure that this is dried glue, perhaps with some remnant paper fibers from when this coin was stuck to a piece of paper. You could try soaking in water first to see if that softens up the glue. Although not really dangerous unless you light it. However, I do suggest purchasing some more and try a dip in that for this coin. Most of what I see does appear to be from glue. You said your out of Acetone so in an unorthodox way for this coin only because it's a circulated common date & mint ; GO ahead and use nail polish remover on it . That stuff on reverse should come off then rinse with water . DONOT use it on any other coins for any reason . Report this Post to the Staff
