It's all damage, but I'm not sure if it is solder melted on top of the coin or something else. What does it weigh?

Don't bother. This is a POC, whatever the weight.

Where are you finding these very rough coins? PMD with this poor little Indian.

Rather than ebay junk collections, I might suggest spending the same money on a single coin, and ebay might not be the best place to buy. Our members here sell and trade coins, and it looks like you have enough posts to do so (but I don't know the exact number needed). If you need help finding sources for coins, ask CCF members by posting in our "wanted" section. I am not sure if you are interested in everything/anything or want to focus on just a couple series, but we can help lead you to sources. Many of us at least start out with searching through rolls of cents that you can get for face value from your local bank. It's a great learning experience and anything interesting you decide to keep only costs you face value. I have found valuable errors and even Indian Head cents this way. Searching through rolls may not be for everyone, but it is an inexpensive way to get started. Good luck

Thank you for the great info, merclover!! I appreciate you taking the time and effort to help out a newbie. I definitely want to start coin roll searching! It's funny because I first started getting into coins because I found a random coin tucked away in a lot I bought. And thus the rabbit hole began. But yes I definitely agree I have graduated on from ebay junk lots for now. Maybe once I get better at cherrypicking ;) As of right now, I'm really drawn to Mercury dimes and Lincoln cents, but who knows where my interests will take me once I start diving into more coins!

As you probably can tell from my name, I am a lover of Mercury dimes myself. It's a great series to start with because you can get some very nice examples at a low price overall... there are only a handful of dates that will cost a lot. You can learn and collect as you build a nice set. If you have any questions, there are a lot of us here that can help as Mercury dimes are very popular. Best advice I can give you is this: buy the best coin you can afford, and don't be in a rush. We here at CCF can help build your knowledge base. Welcome to the family!

I am impressed! That has to be one of the worst identifiable coins I've ever seen!
