I am thinking of buying a collection of Lincoln Cents and Buffalo nickels that someone I knows girlfriend is selling that she inherited from her grandfather after he passed.

Unfortunately all of the coppers have been harshly cleaned.

So aside from the obvious cleaning does this coin look authentic?

It looks authentic, why fake it?

Authentic, just ruined as far as value goes.

Looks legit. Years ago I picked up an older folder of wheat cents--all but five holes filled. Sadly, all of the cents earlier than the mid-40s had the very same 'harsh treatment' your coin has. And each coin was at least F or better condition (apart from the cleaning).

IF all the coins look like that, I'd really try to explain that most of the value has been lost due to the cleaning. How complete are the sets? Might have a few valuable coins there.
