Ignoring the years when there were no coins in general circulation - what are the rare (low mint) years? Five cents - 1972 (I have 30) Ten cents - 1985 (I have 3) and 2011 (I have 4)
Any other's in any denominations? Edited by karloning 05/22/2020 10:02 am

You have to be very lucky to find a 1985 10 Cents. I know someone who has been looking (not noodling) for over 30 years, and not found an example from circulation. About the only way you will get one, will be from a broken 1985 Mint set.

The 1992 Barcelona Olympics (not issued for circulation) is a bit scarce.
Interesting coin for me. I was at the Royal Australian Mint on the 2nd January 1992, as a visitor. That was the first day of issue to collectors for this coin, and the first day that the Mint had a press that was operated by the public on demand. This press was coin operated with a $2 coin, and it was set up to produce the Barcelona $1 coin.
About three months later, I went to the Sydney ANDA coin Show. The Royal Australian Mint was represented by their employees. Ont that day, they were selling the silver proof continuous milling $1 Barcelona coin in the long box. I was early on the queue to buy an example for for $30. Figuring it may be an opportunity, I went to the end of the queue again and waited for about an hour, and bought a 2nd examle for $30. 2,500 examples of the continuous milling were made, I gave one each to both of my kids, both of whom still collect coins.

Quote: 4 of the ACT centenary 20 cent They were scarce for some reason,at least in NSW/Qld,when they were released in 2001.I had to buy a couple of rolls to make up sets, one was scam(got a refund seller claimed not to know),ACT at both ends and the rest various 20c,and one was genuine. NI 20c were also scarce back then.

I meant the 2013 Centenary of the ACT - not the 2001 Federation. I have plenty of the 2001 for all States but only 5 of the 2013 ACT

I think I found some 1985 and 1993 50 cents a while back - 3 each? Have to check. Oddly I am struggling to find the more recent coins.

2018 extremely difficult for me to find in 50c, and also 10c pieces have dried up. 2019 is also hard to find expect for the 20c.

I reckon completing the 2019 alphabet coins could be a challenge! Haven't seen any colored $2 coins for a while.

As a rule of thumb I think anything with a mintage of 5,000,000 or less at https://www.ramint.gov.au/circulating-coins is difficult to find. Only things in those lists that I haven't found in change are 20c pieces 1983-1988 but I suspect none ended up in circulation anyway.
