It is a bit high. Mint marks were hand punched on each working die till 1990 when it was added to the master die. MM location will very, but yours and most are within mint tolerance.

During the Wheat cent era, mint marks were hand-punched. There are several mid-1920s cents with wildly misaligned mint marks. If you search the forums, you will find examples of some of the crazy placements from these years. The 1926-D has locations ranging from slightly west of the "9" to fairly significantly east of the "2." Yours is actually closer to being centered than those placements.

They don't bring a premium, but some people collect the more absurd examples, just for fun. There are also 1953-D and 1953-S cents with the mint mark partly overlapping the "5" in the date.

Thanks John1, Coinfrog and Fortcollins! I'll post the 1927 with low D after I finish packing.

T-BOP I'm going to keep you busy with incorrect grammar, just sayin'.
