AU details. It looks like there are 3 rim gouges on both sides like it was once clamped in place.

All y'all who are seeing rim issues, are the photos large enough in your device? I'm using a laptop, and to me it's very clear that the "rim gouges" are the interior clips of the plastic container, and standing away from the actual coin's rim a good 1mm or so.
I'm just wondering why I see it differently on my screen, and I'm guessing it has something to do with different device/screen combinations.
Thoughts?

the rim gouges look to me like they are on the holder not the coin?

Looks like damage to the rim to me. I guess you don't have the coin in hand?

Assuming the damage is on the holder not the coin, I'll say AU-58. The flat breast and hair are due to weak strike, I think.

Well, this is interesting.
So far, this thread has received eight (8) opinions of grades, none of which were UNC or MS.
PCGS graded this coin MS, so we have several options:
1.) Play "Guess the MS-6? grade" 2.) Specify which of the coin's flaws relegate it to UNC 3.) Postulate as to how/why the PCGS certification could be false or no longer valid 4.) ? (free for all)
As to #3, I have provenance that is more than satisfactory to me, but nothing is bulletproof!
Thoughts?
Fire away! :-)

The dark photos make it really tough to grade from. Looking at the cartwheel luster with no breaks in it, that tells me it is an MS coin. The strike is weak on both sides, it's not wear. With more lighting in the photos, I think this one might be MS-64.

since the 00(P) are typically average strikes this one falls into that. surface preservation is very good with very little ticks that I can find. the rim issues from being in a holder may be enough to details the coin for ED. I'm at MS64

I probably didn't explain this well enough earlier. Those marks are not on the rim of the coin. They just *appear* to be. They are actually the little "coin stops" inside the holder that keep the coin from sliding and turning. I think a couple of them reflect a bit funny in the camera close-up, which caused some earlier commenters to be believe the rim itself was damaged.
It's an older holder from the late 80's and I think people are not used to seeing them around so much anymore.
People are still piping in, so I'll hold back a while longer on the full reveal ;-)
