Saw this was recently listed Morgan dollar.
It is definitely either counterfeit, clean, or proof or a combination.
I'd like to see what others think. If it is proof would it have markers?
the sellers photos are far from spectacular

I vote for polished surfaces, with a little artificial toning thrown in for good measure. I can still see some old crud around the stars, and some lettering. Just a Morgan with "messed-with" surfaces imo.

That's what I was leaning towards at 1st, I spent some time looking at it against an NGC graded example and and the obverse seems to have thick and "glob-like' lettering where the reverse has very flat lettering. The graded coin has semi raised letters that are uniform to both sides. If it's a fake they did a very good job.

Not a proof in my opinion- something doesn't sit right with this coin. The surfaces are strange for sure but I can't tell if it's legit or not.

I believe it's a counterfeit. The reverse has a parallel top arrow feather, which is a design not used after 1879.

The coin is a counterfeit as noted the post above. The straight arrow feather on reverse was only found on 78, 79 and 21.

Thanks for the pointers, I did not notice that the arrow feathers didn't match up with the year. I reported the listing. But I doubt the seller knows it's a fake.
